Master the Fundamentals of Miniature Furniture Craft While Creating a Designer Chair
About The Workshop
This two-day workshop is designed to guide participants in creating their very own designer chair. Using a specially crafted wooden stencil with pre-cut chair parts, the process is made accessible to everyone—no prior experience required.
The stencil acts as a creative tool, enabling participants to engage directly with the design process while exploring the craft of woodworking. Beyond building a chair, the workshop offers a wholesome, hands-on experience of making, learning, and being part of a vibrant makers’ community.
Through this journey, you’ll discover the value of patience, mindfulness, and the satisfaction of working with your hands. It’s an intense yet rewarding experience that provides a refreshing break from digital distractions, offering a real-world reminder that meaningful creations take time.
Curriculum
DAY 1:
10 AM to 6PM
- Begins with Introduction to the tools and Workshop
- Taking out all the Pieces from the Stencil
- Cleaning all the Chair Parts
- Starting with making Joinery
- Selecting the Fabric
- Working on Joinery
DAY 2:
10 AM to 6PM
7. Continue with Joinery, mortises
8. Cutting the Seat Fabric
9. Dry Assemble
10.Glueing the Chair
11.Sanding and Shaping the Edges
12.Polishing
13.Fixing the Seat
14.Photoshoot
Lunch Break: 1PM to 2PM (Vegetarian Food Only)
Tea and snacks are served whenever needed.
Tools & Safety
In this workshop, we use a combination of traditional hand tools along with a power drill machine. All tools are carried by us to set up the complete workshop environment—so you don’t need to bring anything.
Your safety (and your chair’s safety too!) is our top priority. We stay with you every step of the process to guide, support, and ensure that the experience is safe, fun, and rewarding.

Battery Drill, Junior Hacksaw, Vernier Caliper, Table Vices, Clamps, Mallet, Scissors, Hand Planer, L-Angle, Carving Chisels, Metal File, Sand Paper

Workshop Location
The workshop takes place at the creative studio of Sayitwithapin in Sultanpur, New Delhi. Spread across 2,400 sq. ft., the studio is an active, buzzing space that inspires creativity. With its open layout and abundant natural sunlight, it provides the perfect atmosphere for an immersive hands-on making experience.

Poonam Rathore
Architect & Furniture Designer
Poonam Rathore, designer from the old city of Jaipur, has her expertise in designing modular furniture, and after having worked in factory set-ups, she works for various furniture manufacturers across India for designing new furniture series.
She invents methods and ways to train graduates and industry people to upskill their knowledge and skillsets.
Kapil Grover
Architect & Furniture Designer
Kapil Grover is a fond maker from Karnal, Haryana. His immense love for nature and Japanese wooden craft always keeps him closer to soil and wood. He has trained under Kenji Matsumoto, a Japanese woodworking craftsman in Auroville.
Currently, he is working on interior and architecture projects and teaching at OP Jindal, Sonepat.
